It’s odd that Rains, the practical Danish fashion-focused outerwear brand, took so long to set up shop in Ireland, where average annual rainfall is a welly-topping 1230mm and there are more days where we reach for the trench and the umbrella than not. But we are pleased to see them here now, collaborating with the team at longstanding stockist Indigo & Cloth, to open at 21 Wicklow Street in Dublin, the first of ten store openings planned for Ireland.
The utilitarian clothing brand started off reinterpreting traditional rubber raincoats. Soon after came a full offering of waterproof clothing, chic bags and cool accessories. The company’s design ethos is ultimately rooted in simplicity and functionality with inspiration coming from nature and contemporary urban life.
The new store’s curated SS24 edit was full of colour: think electric blue puffer jackets, mint green cosy fleeces with tonal shell panels, and original Rains iconic lightweight PU ponchos and long rain jackets ideal for throwing on over a sweater on those days when the weather is unpredictable., particularly a vast XL shopper which comes in black and silver. “The newly launched luggage styles will be a big hit,” Joshua Bredehoeft of Rains told us.
Rains unisex waterproof baseball caps come in lots of colours, nice for walking on windy beaches or drizzly golf courses. Judging by the young crowd flocking to the new store, wearing the pieces with wide-leg jeans, pumped-up trainers and slogan tees, Rains has a bright future in Ireland. We loved the way they wore Rains, but we’re equally happy with wearing a classic navy rain jacket with our Aigle boots on a rainy day. And we know there’ll be plenty of those.
