WhatsApp and Instagram down in Ireland LIVE: Updates and what's going on online

Social media messaging site WhatsApp appears to be currently down for users worldwide.

Hundreds of thousands of people have been unable to send texts, videos, pictures and voice notes this evening.Messages have a timer symbol beside them, not the famous single and double blue tickets. A spike in problems accessing WhatsApp in Ireland occured around 7pm, according to Downdetector. Neither WhatsApp, or their parent company META, have released statements as of yet to outline what the problem is with the sites.
