After his mother’s death, Paul Roche’s family home had sadly fallen into disrepair. So when Mayfield House in Enniscorthy town went up for auction, Paul and his school teacher wife Helena put in a bid of €430,000 on a whim and won.
In the new season of RTE’s The Great House Revival, cameras watched as Paul unearthed dry rot, a leaking roof and rotten beams. Nevertheless, Paul powered through and along the way found a unique secret room that has been hidden in the house for decades. Hugh said: “There are missing ceilings and rot in the floor of some rooms… but the real issue in this house is lime plaster which unfortunately is gone… lots of internal plaster has to be removed and that’s the most revolting job.
By the time Hugh visited the home in January 2024, 15 months after his first visit, the house was transformed and although the family hadn’t moved in yet, they weren’t far off.Discover the dad's homemade weed killer recipe that clears driveways in 24 hours
