Natasha O'Brien, who was beaten unconscious by a serving Irish soldier, has told a solidarity rally in Dublin that she will keep the pressure on politicians to take action on tackling violence against women.

She said she felt a"little bit hopeful" after receiving so much support and said she believed she had found a"purpose" in speaking up. Cathal Crotty, a serving member of the Defence Forces, walked free from court last week when he was given a three-year suspended sentence for attacking Ms O'Brien. "What I experienced in that courtroom last Wednesday is true trauma. That is, if I had to go back and I had to choose, would I rather experience what I had to experience two years ago or last Wednesday? I’d go back to two years ago. It was that appalling."

Nearly a week on from her attacker being handed a suspended sentence, Natasha O'Brien speaks to @MiriamOCal and says she will continue to speak about her experience for victims of violent crime that"don’t have a voice".— RTÉ Prime Time June 25, 2024 She said she had been"completely victimised" during the court case.

"If you are prepared to stand up there after someone has committed a heinous crime and commend that human, commend that defendant on their mannerisms, that's just not acceptable", Ms O'Brien added.
