Phelan came to prominence in Irish public life in 2018 after she exposed the Cervical Check scandal which involved the mishandling of cervical screening results, leading to the discovery that many women were not informed that their screening had failed to show signs of cervical cancer.
She was on The Late Late Show on Friday night to talk about her entire experience, as well as the release of her new book Overcoming. She read:"My dying wish will be for the women of Ireland. That because of what has happened in the past year, maybe my last year on earth, they will be able to trust that their lives are in safe hands. That they will be minded and cared for at their most vulnerable, and that everything will be done to give them the lives they deserve.
She continued:"There will be others who will continue this fight without me when I'm gone, because we are all in this together. At the end of the day, we all come from the same place - a mother's womb. This is everybody's story.""We are all in this together at the end of the day...This is everybody's story"
