Speaking first to the Fitzpatrick family from Clonakilty in Cork, the true golden moment of this footage comes at the 2.26 minute mark when Emilie Fitzpatrick of Cork gives a heart wrenching interview about being away from home.
“I’ve never met a bunch of girls so passionate about hurling, about camogie. I know it’s a big deal at home but never in my life have I seen girls so into their camogie. “Being away from home, being away from camogie, it’s like a bit of you. It means so much to everybody around you. Everybody’s working together and it kind of reminds you a bit of home,” she continued, before breaking down in tears.
“You put so much into it with such a good group of girls and they take such good care of you. Like I’m the youngest, so they took me under their wing and they showed me what to do and they really made me feel like I was home. “I’ve always loved camogie but once I came out here I felt like I had to keep it, it reminded me so much of home and it was a part of me and I just couldn’t lose it…I’m just blessed I’ve had the chance to play with such a good group of girls.
