The largest annual volume decreases were in other retail sales , books, newspapers and stationery , food, beverages and tobacco , and furniture and lighting .
The volume of retail sales excluding motor trades was unchanged in the month and fell by 4.5 per cent in the year when compared with October 2021. The value of retail sales in the fuel sector rose by 18.8 per cent in the year to October, while the corresponding volume rose by 1.9 per cent over the same period, reflecting higher prices compared with the previous year.
