A flight from a US coronavirus hotspot will arrive in Dublin Airport on Friday - despite an expert slamming the practice as a "disgrace".This is despite the state of Texas reporting a staggering 10,745 new infections over the last 24 hours.Over the next two days other planes are set to arrive from American cities including New York, Chicago and Newark.
It comes after Trinity College Professor Luke O'Neill had warned earlier this week that allowing flights in "a sure-fire way to increase the chances of spikes". Prof O'Neill told the Pat Kenny Show on Monday: "It's outrageous. Here we have one of the most dangerous places in the world for COVID-19, which is to say Texas, for example, Arizona - the numbers are terrifying there, they're breaking records every day."We're trying to avoid a surge of a spike - and yet people are coming in from a country that's got a very high level of virus in the community.
"So it's a big mistake letting those people in sadly, of course the tourist trade wants them, but this is a sure-fire way to increase the chances of spikes and surges coming into Ireland."
