Shane MacGowan’s widow Victoria Mary Clarke has appealed for help in finding a special present that was gifted to her late husband which she says has “most likely” been stolen.
Unfortunately, the wonderful gift that was presented to Shane by a “dear musician friend” has gone missing with Victoria stressing that it has “most likely been stolen”.Thankfully, Victoria shared some information about the rifle and its defining features, including an etching of the words H Munn.“It was a birthday gift to Shane MacGowan from a dear musician friend and it was used in the GPO so it was historically significant. It was a Lee–Enfield 303 and it has H Munn etched on it.
It was the standard service rifle of the British Armed Forces from its official adoption in 1895 until 1957 and many were used by Irish rebels in 1916. Victoria’s followers and Shane’s fans flocked to the comments of her post to express their disgust at the news that The Pogues songwriter's present had possibly been stolen, hoping that the memorabilia is returned as soon as possible.
