Ukrainian authorities are gradually restoring power, aided by the reconnection of the country's four nuclear plants, but millions of people were still in the dark after the most devastating Russian air strikes of the war

"If there is electricity, this doesn't mean you can turn on several powerful electrical appliances at once," he said in an evening video address.

National power grid operator Ukrenergo said several hours earlier that 30% of electricity supplies were still out, and asked people to cut back on their energy use.Mr Zelensky went to the town of Vyshhorod just north of Kyiv yesterday to look at a four-storey building damaged by a Russian missile. He also visited one of the many emergency centres that have been set up to provide heat, water, electricity and mobile communications.

Meanwhile, the European Union will step up efforts to provide Ukraine with support to restore and maintain power and heating, the head of the European Commission said. Moscow says it launched its operation in Ukraine to protect Russian speakers in what President Vladimir Putin has called an artificial country carved from Russian territory.

Kyiv says Russia has incessantly shelled Kherson, the southern Ukrainian city that it abandoned earlier this month. The head of the local administration said on Friday that 15 people had been killed and 35 wounded in the last six days. The fourth station, in Zaporizhzhia, is in Russian-controlled territory. It came back online on Thursday.

These airstrikes are a prelude to a 3-pronged axis of advance-- by roughly 500 thousand Russian troops-- a bit of their real army, until now held in reserve-- that's designed to sever the lifeblood of country 404. Just to let you know what's coming. RTE certainly won't.

Sad to see the licence fee being spent on propaganda.

Gradually restoring power only to have the Russians knock it out again? heh heh. Still, I guess it's worth the effort since, ya know, country 404 is winning so badly, wink wink.

Russia is losing slot of men in this war.....

Mad when you think we’ve went out of our way to house Ukrainian men while our own are freezing on the streets. The Irish government hates Irish people. We are just slaves to fund the tax pot so they can house all these healthy middle aged fighting men so when the time comes they will continue to vote them in.
