Pressure is building on the Conservative Party chairman after tax ‘error’

The embattled Tory chair released a statement on Saturday to “address some of the confusion about my finances”, but it raised further questions, including whether Mr Zahawi negotiated the dispute while he was serving as chancellor. He did not disclose the size of the settlement – reported to be an estimated £4.8 million including a 30% penalty –, nor confirm whether he paid a fine.“I don’t know more than is in his statement,” he said.

Mr Cleverly also evaded questions on what Mr Sunak knew when he appointed Mr Zahawi as party chairman. The Sun on Sunday reported that Mr Zahawi had been due to receive a knighthood in the new year’s honours list but was later blocked due to concerns over his tax situation. “The public have a right to know if warnings were ignored and a man deemed unfit for a knighthood was repeatedly appointed to cabinet.”

“We’re being asked to believe that he had this asset worth £27 million that he didn’t really know was his, and therefore didn’t really know tax was due on it.

Neither of these are even remotely significant as issues yet they are all our elected politicians have dealt with this week. Its like an argument you'd expect in a playschool over 2 toys. Of course they do cause they all wondering whose next so circling the wagons Let the punishment befit the crime - this nonsense is getting way out of control.
