Shrewsbury Town have handed out banning orders totalling eight years to two fans following abusive chants aimed at Liverpool supporters earlier this month.

The clips appeared to show some Shrewsbury fans singing a song referencing the Hillsborough disaster in 1989, in which 97 Liverpool supporters died following the FA Cup semi-final against Nottingham Forest in Sheffield.

“These people do not represent our club in any way shape or form and we are liaising with West Mercia Police to try and identify those responsible who will in turn liaise with Merseyside Police. "As a club we do not condone and will not tolerate any behaviour that breaches our supporter code of conduct and brings our good name into disrepute."Town goalkeeper Harry Burgoyne was one of many who took to social media to share his disgust following circulation of the videos on the day of the cup game.
