An investigation is under way after a man in his 80s and a woman in her 70s died in a fire at a house in Cork. Emergency services were called to the scene on the Lower Glanmire Road. The fire broke out at a four-storey terraced house close to Kent Railway Station. Post-mortem examinations will be carried out at Cork University Hospital.

Emergency services were called to the scene on the Lower Glanmire Road at around 11.15pm.

Their bodies have been removed to Cork University Hospital, where post-mortem examinations are due to be carried out. It is understood the couple lived in the house for decades and the woman was from the area and grew up on Lower Glanmire Road. Seven fire appliances, including high reach, water tanker and command and control vehicles, were on the scene along with senior fire officers.
