The two female judges of the Supreme Court were shot dead as they were driving to their Kabul office

The early morning attack in Kabul is the latest in a wave of assassinations that continues to rattle the nation.

The attack on the judges happened as they were driving to their office in a court vehicle, said Ahmad Fahim Qaweem, a spokesman for the Supreme Court. Afghanistan's Supreme Court was a target in February 2017 when a suicide bomb ripped through a crowd of court employees, killing at least 20 and wounding 41.

"The government once again reiterates its call on the Taliban that violence, terror, brutality and crimes ... will only prolong the war in the country," he said in a statement issued by the presidential palace. The top British envoy to Kabul, Alison Blake, condemned the "appalling targeted attack" on the judges.

Horrible

With the drawdown of USA 🇺🇸 troops in Afghanistan to just 2,500, the question to ask is “who gains from these high-level assassinations?”. They seem to be a consequence of the continued reduction in the number of USA/NATO forces in the country... It’s highly suspicious... UN
