Two people were killed and more than 10 injured when they were hit by a car in a pedestrian area of the West German city of Trier, the city's mayor Wolfram Leibe said, according to public broadcaster SWR.
"We are just trying to get an overview", he said. "We have ambulances from all over the region helping here. Our first task now is to make people safe."Local police said one person, a 51-year-old man from the Trier area, has been arrested."We have arrested one person and one vehicle has been secured. Two people have died, according to preliminary indications. Please continue to avoid the downtown area.
