Prof Paddy Mallon said we are at a critical stage in the country in how we manage the Covid-19 pandemic and this weekend is 'make or break'

An infectious diseases consultant has said it is "absolutely ridiculous" that people are even considering leaving their principal place of residence to go to a holiday home this weekend.

It comes as video showed a long tailback of traffic on the N11 after gardaí were given additional powers to restrict movements in light of the Covid-19 pandemic. On Tuesday, Minister for Health Simon Harris signed regulations to give gardaí the power to enforce Covid-19 restrictions.

Airports and ports should be closed to non goods deliveries. Its ridiculous telling us to stay at home and they letting non residents into the country.

Can guards split traffic in 2 lines. 1 for commercials and medics. 1 for other traffic. If u cheat in medics line u get fined and turned around

If the government had actually got off their hole and started isolating people coming into the country from the beginning this would not be such an issue now, surely it would've been better to inconvenience the few travelling then rather than the whole country now.

It’s time for the Covid team to do what they did in Italy. Show the public the inside of the hospitals where staff are run off their feet with very ill/ dying patients. Then let people decide if the restrictions are necessary or can be violated.

This is so shameful!!!

Just an excuse to create a police state.

Just to let you know you have actually got a piece wrong there-caption under the first picture says only essential workers can travel more than 2km, that's not true.People can for essential activities such as medical appointments or shopping. The 2km restriction is for exercising

I keep seeing pics of a nearly empty M50 but this has not been my experience at all...maybe photographer needs to hang around junction 3 to 9 more 🙂 toomanyessentialworkers

How do you think the virus spread in Spain and Italy. Selfish clowns. The sooner we stick to the plan the sooner we all can get to normal again. Spoilt brats . Take away their €350 per week and a €5000 fine muppets.

Well that’s a joke because the place is full of Dubs who have come down to their holiday homes!

Why wait till it gets to a critical stage ? Someone take that prof away from this fools name

We are doing well bending the curve......

Free to travel statutes and acts are null in void not laws no jurisdiction over u no law
