Ireland Headlines News

Bus Éireann and the National Transport Authority have announced the extension of the Transport for Ireland Travel Assistance Scheme to passengers in Cork from September

The scheme, which has operated in Dublin since 2008, helps people with disabilities and who have additional needs to use public transport.

John O'Flynn, Head of Customer Experience at the NTA, said that a travel assistant helps the customer to plan their journey. "They accompany the person on board for often up to five occasions, building their confidence all the time and helping them learn the routine of how to use that journey," he told RTÉ's News at One.

"It has been said by many of the customers in Dublin that it has changed their lives. We'll bring it to Cork and we’ll give the same success to Cork as it has had in Dublin.""We plan to roll it out in Local Link in Cork as well. If we make sure that people avail of the service in Cork, we'll look at other regions then.

'I could feel blood splattering on me': Man (26) suffers homophobic assault on Dublin BusMark Sheehan was called 'queer' and a 'f****t' before he was headbutted on a Dublin Bus. There was some senator clown on Pat Kenny yesterday saying dublin is safe 'statistically' So is it more painful when it's 'homophobic' assault rather than a normal every day run of the mill assault. Lots of description of the victim and circumstances - a description of the assailants might actually be more useful?
