Over 3,000 women seeking escape from domestic violence turned away from refuges due to lack of space

More than 3,000 women seeking sanctuary from violent, abusive men last year were turned away from safe houses due to lack of space.

Many inevitably are forced to return home, often with children, to face more beatings, abuse and coercive control. “Over the year services providing refuge were unable to provide accommodation for 3,256 requests because they were full,” Safe Ireland said.
