The dark side of the spoon: Ireland to clamp down harder on plastic cutlery via IrishTimesBiz

Previous research in Ireland showed more than 200kg of waste packaging is generated per person every year despite pledges to “go green”. Irish people use and dispose of 200 million coffee cups every year, too.

“This bad faith action on the part of numerous takeaway food businesses, petrol stations and wholesale suppliers of catering supplies make a mockery of the SUPD bans,” the environmental group noted in its recent report. While Voice and others demand greater enforcement, it is a message not lost on officials who say it will be stepped up next year through the Environmental Protection Agency , local authorities, gardaí and customs officers.

In the years to come, the directive will see producers contribute to cleaning up discarded cigarette butts, balloons and fishing gear; slash plastic bottle use; and make vending machines offer genuinely reusable products.Mindy O'Brien of Voice

Ukrainian doctors given pathway to work in Ireland, including targeted English lessonsLanguage is the central issue but some could be registered here in less than a year, says Dr Kateryna Kachurets, a Ukrainian who arrived in Ireland in 2016 Careful now - we don’t want the anti-immigrant protesters saying that Ukrainians are coming over taking their jobs. (Although in this case I’d say we are safe enough) don't they need doctors in ukraine during a war ? another ploy by politicians to bring in cheap labour is all this is because they can't be bothered paying irish doctors and nurses a decent wage Finally some common sense with huge swathes of qualified medics being allowed to work.

Eamon Ryan denies he 'hates rural Ireland' or that rural people 'hate him''I think actually there's a lot of people in rural Ireland just like urban people, they want us to be good at being green' The problem with E Ryan and the Greens is that they are confusing climate change with pollution. Since 2000 there has been zero global warming, but world population has increased by 2 billion. There are rivers in the far east where the water cannot be seen because of waste.
