The Counter Ruck Podcast

Ireland begin their Six Nations campaign a number of months after winning the first edition of the WXV3 competition. It was a much-needed confidence boost in an era largely defined by governance controversy off the field and spiralling performances off it.

John Cronin was director of rugby at Railway Union RFC, coaching a number of current and former Ireland internationals. He has been a prominent voice in the media and on social media advocating for change in the women’s game. He joins John O’Sullivan and host Nathan Johns to preview the upcoming tournament, assess the balance between Ireland Sevens and 15s, debate the introduction and omission of certain key players and assess if Ireland can avoid once again finishing at the bottom of the table.

The Card Counter: A Dark Film about a Gambler's Existential CrisisHe plays William, a man who spent eight years in military prison and remains haunted by his past decisions. Now making a living via gambling, his philosophy is to bet small and win modestly in order to avoid attention. This is challenged, however, after he meets the charming La Linda (Tiffany Haddish) – a woman who manages a stable of professional gamblers and helps get them backed by rich investors – and a young man named Cirk (Tye Sheridan) who shares a mutual enemy (played by Willem Dafoe) with William. Written and directed by Paul Schrader – of American Gigolo and Taxi Driver fame – and executively produced by Martin Scorsese, The Card Counter continues Schrader’s run of making films about people with unusual jobs facing an existential crisis. Thankfully, these movies are usually very good and The Card Counter’s no exception – with its terrific performances, dark story and searing critique of America leading to it earning an 87% score on Rotten Tomatoes.Bruce Willis plays a former homicide detective on the hunt for a serial killer in this watchable ’90s thriller
