Hughes spoke candidly during the episode about his achievements and personal loss.

TG4 viewers hailed the season finale of Laochra Gael as 'powerful' but 'heartbreaking' as Kevin Hughes opened up about his time in Tyrone and his own personal loss.

The former midfielder has suffered immense personal loss, losing his brother, Paul, and sister, Helen, to accidents on the A4 in 1997 and 2001. “It’s part and parcel of it. That’s the hand we’ve been dealt. You just try and find the strength to talk about it, as hard as it is. I done a podcast last year and it was nice just to get Paul and Helen’s names out there again.

And viewers were full of praise for the episode but found it both brilliant and heartbreaking in equal measure.
