Taosieach Micheal Martin slams Gordon Elliot's behaviour as 'unacceptable' after horse racing ban

The Taoiseach also said that the controversy surrounding the top trainer being pictured sitting on a dead horse has "damaged" the Irish racing industry, which supports tens of thousands of jobs.Mr Elliot has been sensationally banned from running horses for at least six months after an Irish Racing Regulatory Board hearing suspended his training license.

The Irish Mirror asked the Taoiseach for his opinion on Mr Elliot and whether he thought the sport had been brought into disrepute..“And I think it offended people’s sense of the necessity, and the importance, of the respect for animal welfare.“It is a matter for the authorities within the industry to deal with this through their disciplinary procedures.

Mr Martin said: “I’m particularly conscious that it is an industry that has provided very gainful employment across rural Ireland.
