The suggestion came in the Daily Telegraph on Friday morning as tensions between the UK and Ireland over asylum seekers continue

Taoiseach Simon Harris said that suggestions that Ireland would join the UK’s Rwanda scheme are like “satire”.

They quoted a Downing Street source as saying: “If the Irish government believes the Rwanda plan is already having an effect, we can explore Ireland joining the Rwanda scheme”.“In relation to that issue of Ireland and Rwanda, that's more satire than the news,” Mr Harris said. “We have a Common Travel Area between the two islands. That's a Common Travel Area that's in place for a very long time when both countries were in the European Union, and it's still in place now that one country is in the European Union and another isn't.

Following the removal of nearly 300 men from a makeshift tent encampment on Mount Street on Wednesday, nearly 100 asylum seekers who turned up at the International Protection Office on Thursday were told there was no accommodation for them.Mr Harris implied this was done on private land as he defended moving people from Mount Street.
