A Stardust survivor has said today’s State apology from Taoiseach Simon Harris is tinged with sadness as her late parents and Charlie Bird did not live long enough to see justice delivered.
Following a meeting with the families on Saturday, Mr Harris will deliver an apology on behalf of the State in the Dáil this Tuesday afternoon. This includes not only their loved ones who died during the tragedy but also family members who fought for justice but died before it was delivered.“We've gotten the unlawful killing now on the record for the 48 victims, our loved ones,” she said.“Whatever happens after that, it's another step forward.“We always knew that they were unlawfully killed.
“They finished as much as they could before they passed away. But to see the results of what they fought for – unlawful killing – they would have been so relieved at last that there's a verdict and a true verdict.”She said he had hoped to be there when the jury at the Dublin District Court returned its verdict after the inquest.
