Sinn Féin Senator LNBDublin has said there can be 'no further delays' after an issue related to legal aid for the families of the Stardust victims has been resolved

Image: Leon Farrell/Rollingnews.ie A FUNDING ISSUE relating to the provision of legal aid that was delaying the beginning of the Stardust fire inquests has been resolved.

The families’ legal team had repeatedly written to the Department of Justice in an attempt to resolve the issue, and have the department release funds to allow the legal team conduct research and instruct barristers ahead of the inquest hearings. 48 young people lost their lives in the blaze, and over 200 people were injured. The average age of the deceased was just 19 with most of them from the nearby areas of Artane, Coolock and Edenmore.

Solicitor Darragh Mackin, who represents 46 of the families, said that the usual process for an inquest would be for legal counsel to receive a fee for each deceased person who is represented at an inquest hearing. “We have received no response,” he said earlier this month. “It’s frustrating for families waiting for these inquests to get under way.”

Now that the issue has been resolved, it paves the way for the inquests to get under way in the coming months.

Leaky & mehole will use covid 2 push that back long as possible. Remember there's change of saint corruption at the pearly gates of government early 2022. Mehole is stepping aside and the biggest leak of all time will replace him. Maybe we can do something about that before then

Stardust families’ rights breached by ‘unlawful’ failure to provide legal aidSolicitor will seek judicial review if inquest delays over funding not resolved in coming weeks FF continue to obstruct the investigation into this tragedy. If evidence was ever needed of this party's disregard for the well-being of Irish citizens this is the perfect example. Forty years later and the cover up continues. Shameful.

Online TY course shines light on Ireland's legal systemNormally there is a limit of 100 pupils taking part each year, but the pandemic has meant that the course is now online, with over 10,000 pupils signed up to it no disrespect to Colaiste Einde which is a great school but your career guidance needs to think higher than law! Look to the future with Computer Science and engineering, not adding bureaucracy via Law. Ask John Collison collision and his talk on davidmcw podcast. TheBarofIreland This is such a wonderful opportunity for every single person who has signed up for this year's programme. Being the best that you can be means far more than being better than anyone else. The best advice I was given 'keep going until something stops you'. If you want to be a barrister, you have to get through your first year without pay, followed by a 4 year 'poverty period'. A career in tech would see you put away at least €200,000 by then. Barristers sometimes never retire, techies retire early. Choose wisely.
