The St Patrick's Day weather forecast has improved over the past few days, with some mixed weather expected for the bank holiday.

Speaking on Thursday morning, meteorologist Siobhan Ryan said: “We’re looking at a mixed picture for St Patrick’s weekend, but a mild one too with some spells of Spring sunshine, despite some occasional outbreaks of rain.

“Sunday, St Patrick’s Day, will be damp locally to begin. However, overall a lot of dry weather is expected with good sunny spells and just well scattered showers.Thankfully, the previously predicted washout looks to be avoided for this year, we’re praying its as dry as can be.Ms Ryan also revealed the weather for the bank holiday Monday, saying that “Late overnight rain will clear to sunshine and just well scattered showers.

“However a further spell of rain is likely to move in from the Atlantic but not until later in the day. Possibly staying dry once it develops for daylight hours.”in place for Cork and Kerry noon on Thursday, with potential impacts including wave overtopping, risk of flooding and difficult travelling conditions.

“Some drier and brighter spells will develop across parts of Leinster and east Munster through the afternoon and evening. Mild and humid with highest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees generally, but cooler on west and northwest fringes. Breezy across the southern half of the country in moderate to fresh southwest winds, with light variable winds elsewhere.

“Tonight will bring scattered outbreaks of rain and drizzle with low cloud and mist too. Clearer spells will develop across the west and northwest later. Lowest temperatures of 5 to 8 degrees in light to moderate southwest winds, later veering west.
