Motorists who drive more than 30km/h over the speed limit could now be whacked with an immediate fine of €2,000 and a court prosecution.Mr Ross is also proposing a new scaled-down schedule of fines for more minor speeding offences than one he proposed last year.
The Attorney General, Seamus Wolfe, also said at the time that he had concerns about the planned grading of speeding offences. But if you are caught blatantly flouting the law of the road by going more than 30km/ph over a speed limit, Mr Ross’ new laws will have little mercy on you. He is now expected to ask for support from his colleagues for the following graduated scale of punishments for speeders.
