Image: Shutterstock/thodonal88 SOME PENSIONERS LIVING in South Dublin council houses are to be hit with an increase in their rent of more than €600.
While the council has continued its €10 weekly rent discount for households solely comprised of older persons, other old age pensioners will forfeit the discount. This means if another person, who is not of pensionable age, lives in the home, the discount cannot apply. “It is a heartless attack on some of the most vulnerable people on low incomes,” he said, stating that he is particularly concerned about the changes to the €10 discount for pensioners, which he said will now be removed for a substantial number of older people.
“Separately, we have continued our €10 weekly rent discount for households solely comprised of older persons. Other multi-person households that include older persons will not receive the discount,” added the statement.
