There will be a change to the usual social welfare payment dates very soon and recipients should be aware of the shake up so they aren't caught out by the swap

Thanks to the upcoming August Bank Holiday, banks and post offices will be closed on the Monday the 5th of August.

Anyone expecting a social welfare payment on the 5th will most likely be paid early. It is expected that you will see your payment land in your account on Friday the 2nd or Saturday the 3rd of August.Because of the bank holiday, anyone in receipt of Child Benefit will most likely also be paid early, on the Friday or Saturday also. This is to ensure that no one receives a late payment as a result of the banks being closed.

The shake up comes as social welfare recipients could see a €25 increase in their weekly payment in the upcoming budget. In their pre-Budget submission, Social Justice Ireland have called for an increase of at least €25 a week to social welfare payments.
