A lobby group for smokers who campaigned against the introduction of the smoking ban in Ireland has claimed that it has not been "an irrefutable success story”.
"Researchers also found a striking similarity between the rate of closures in Ireland following the ban, and the rate of closures in Scotland, England and Wales following the introduction of smoking bans in those countries in 2006 and 2007." Furthermore, numerous countries followed Ireland’s lead following the introduction of the ban, with 74 countries banning smoking indoors in the years since.
