The woman who sadly lost her life following a collision along the N17 near Claremorris in Mayo on Thursday evening was the sixth person to be killed along the same short stretch of road since the start of the year.
Among these five collisions, four were deadly, resulting in the deaths of six people, ranging from ages as young as 10 to a woman in her late 50s. While one collision resulted in two people being hospitalised for injuries.The first collision of the year occurred on January 21. Jimmy Rowe, who was a dad-of-five and aged in his 40s, sadly died during a single-vehicle collision on the N17 at Lisduff, Claremorris, as Storm Isha battered the country.
Tragedy struck on March 26, when the car Una Bowden, 47, and her two daughters Ciara, 14, and Saoirse, 9, were travelling in collided with a fuel lorry on the N17 at Castlegar near Claremorris. The mother and her two little girls sadly lost their lives in the horror crash. Now, a woman in her late 50s has sadly died following a three-car crash on the N17 at Castlemacgarrett near Claremorris on Thursday, May 16. This is the 72nd road fatality this year.
