Sinn Féin's agriculture spokesperson Matt Carthy said that 'setting targets [for emissions reduction] without having a plan to implement them is pointless'

It is now incumbent on the Minister for Agriculture to outline the additional measures that will deliver the agreed 25% reduction in agricultural emissions, Sinn Féin's agriculture spokesperson has said.

He said Ireland has never reached Climate Action targets under governments comprising of Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael and the Greens, which he says"proves that setting targets without having a plan to implement them is pointless". "That means, if necessary, any interventions are directed at those who don't engage in these positive practices rather than broad sweeping schemes that target everyone."

Ms O'Reilly said that with"add-ons" such as the installation of solar panels and anaerobic digestion facilities, the agriculture sector was likely to achieve emission cuts of close to 30%. However, he also expressed deep frustration at the length of time it took Government to agree to agricultural emissions targets.

Dublin TD Patrick Costello, who has temporarily lost the Green Party whip, also spoke of the significance in landing the deal."We have to be honest and say that the final targets are not what they could have been but we've delivered the first binding climate targets. Let's not lose sight of that and get on with delivering it."

Ww3 looming rockets and missiles are there on about emmissions

He would know all about farming.

Why you can't take SF seriously. Jokers

Any plan for the provos to pay back the state for their criminality?

Spoofers.

Setting targets without a having plan to implement them is pointless. Indeed.

Ditch hurling spoofer They'll be useless in government .... all they know is how to oppose measures

So setting carbon emissions and expecting nobody to stick to them any way? And complaining about SF. The three amigos are just doing everything they can to make SF run away with the next election.

Carbon emissions are very low on the list of priorities of the Army Council.

Leave the farmers alone . Its like trying to fill a colander with water. Let's see the big polluters like China doing their bit first and the US etc. It seems that their is profit to be made from this carbon neutral bollocks . Brown envelopes for contracts same as in war.

What about calling out this absolute lunacy and destruction of the Irish economy sector by sector and the resulting mass unemployment for what it is a diabolical attack on Ireland by a Government to keep a wealthy loony cult propping up Martin. That's actually what opposition is.

Not knowing, or saying, what targets should be set is not pointless! It is an indication tho, that SF is a good bit behind the point on this one.. Keep quiet all week, then criticise?

It's called magical thinking...

'setting targets without having a plan to implement them is pointless' is literally the SF mantra. the money tree party

Reality is that what’s needed is a whole new system because the present one doesn’t work & wont whatever changes are made.

Not Sinn Fein talking sense again!!! When will this madness stop

Where exactly does Sinn Féin stand on climate change? The debate this week is around sectoral emissions ceilings but is not the first time Sinn Féin has found itself under pressure over climate policies. Yawn. They don’t stand, just sit on the fence as usual If SF/IRA want to woo the farming vote, they will have to sing their tune. Mary Lou and co have a history of being populist so it follows that they should court the farmers. They don't have principles unlike the Greens.
