Icon: This Corkman found success during the showband era and has toured all around the globe, including America and Canada, and the high roads and low roads of Ireland, and he loves performing to this day

I played with local bands and groups just before the showband era kicked off. Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin were in their heyday and Elvis was just coming on the scene. We had a great music teacher teaching us in school, or doing their best anyway . My family was also very musically inclined. I had two sisters and they played the violin and the piano. There was always music in the house.The dances were big events and the social aspect was very important. It was where boys met girls.

For anybody with a bit of musical talent that joined a showband, they were launched onto a huge stage. It gave them a chance to express themselves and perform. That brought the best out of people as their talent flourished.At that time, not many people were travelling to and from America.
