GAA,Munster Senior Hurling Championship

Sky Sports are no longer interested in Gaelic games. Virgin Media didn’t make a pitch the last time the rights were up for grabs. There are no alternatives

There are 11 games in the 2024 Munster SHC. All of them can be viewed live, either on RTE or GAA GO. However, it seems that the only way that the shouty nonsense and political opportunism of the past week or so can be prevented is to have all 11 free-to-air on terrestrial television.

, so the GAA expanding the streaming service that it instigated with RTE back in 2014 makes absolute sense amid that backdrop. And if GAAGO is to be a success, which it needs to be in order to make a meaningful contribution to how the GAA funds its vast range of activities and projects, then it has to be allocated a number of plum fixtures, such as some of those in the Munster SHC.

"We do not have shareholders, we have stakeholders, and our stakeholders are demanding that we do our best, that we try to fund all of our infrastructure projects.Issues around broadband, connectivity and ability to operate an iPad or laptop, particularly for older generations, are all impediments which simply turning on a television overrides, but still not strong enough reasons in themselves to walk away from a streaming service.

It has essentially resulted in the last two weekends being hurling-free on RTE at a time when the concentration of quality hurling games is at its highest all year round.
