New restrictions are to come into force across the country – so what does this mean for retail?

Image: Sam Boal Image: Sam Boal THE GOVERNMENT HAS announced that the country is moving to Level 5 restrictions as of Wednesday night – so what retailers and services will be allowed to continue?

The list of essential retail and services is longer than during the last shutdown, with hardware shops, bicycle repair shops and opticians joining the likes of supermarkets, newsagents and pharmacies this time around. And services for motorists such as driving tests and the NCT will continue during the six-week period.

Children only allowed to continue playing amateur sports whilst parents attend. Once again everyone else gives up almost everything except parents and children. We’re not all pulling in the same direction while one cohort remains exempt from restrictions.

You can send a kid to school but you can't buy necessary items to send them to school. (Clothes, stationery, books ecc) ....

Most shops expected to close under new restrictionsThe Government is set to announce further Covid-19 restrictions for the whole country after a Cabinet meeting today, with most shops are expected to close will close, along with amenities like gyms Regional lockdowns in all those countries. In this country we are proposing full national lockdown. Very unfair on counties like Carlow who have only a few daily cases. Should be a threshold set whereby if the county incidence rate exceeds 500 per 100k they move to level 5 Will retailers risk ordering stock in advance of a proposed reopening? Why doesn't everyone just decide to ignore all this crap, they can't arrest and fine everyone!
