An Garda Síochána is warning people not to get scammed by cyber criminals during Black Friday and Cyber Monday

The call comes as it is predicted as much as €26 million will be spent on shopping in upcoming Black Friday sales.

"There are a lot of criminals out there setting up fake websites, setting up fake ads on social media, so you need to be aware of that and you need to be very alert to it. Last year also saw payment card fraud at"point of sale" or in-store return to pre-Covid levels as most retail outlets reopened with the lifting of most public health restrictions.

Ms Davenport added:"With a jump of almost 46% in debit card fraud losses alone, we are calling on all consumers to pause for thought before parting with their money or information and familiarise themselves with some of the very straight forward steps they can take to protect themselves."

Black Friday is the scam !!

So really what safeguards do banks have in place

Just had a conversation with my bank about a fraud issue on my account- I was told that if I make a purchase on a website & that website later takes an unauthorized amount from my account. There’s nothing the bank can do. It should be noted that 1st purchase requires authorization

Don't get scammed online as well as offline, lehhds! 🇺🇦

Biggest scammers are shops on Black Friday.

Should the Gardai not be warning the cyber criminals not to scam people? It's like asking women to make sure they don't get raped on a night out.
