Shels fans are right, Damien Duff is in your head, and so are his team

It’s time to stop patting Shels on the back and start treating them like the title contenders they are.

The best teams carry themselves differently. They’ve confidence and belief and know when an opponent is beaten before a ball is kicked. Everyone in the Premier Division is obsessed with what Shamrock Rovers do. And they’ll come good, have no doubt. But the Shels fans are right when they sing about Duffer being in your head. His team is on everyone’s mind.

I was at Tallaght Stadium on the opening night and thought Dundalk looked the part against Shamrock Rovers. They were good value for the draw and had a steeliness about them that augured well for the year ahead. Precedent was set with Drogheda and Bohs fans and the FAI were not going to change for anyone - and rightly so.
