Scottie Schleffer's lawyer has insisted the world No.1 is ready to go to trial to prove his innocence after his arrest at the PGA Championship.
A court date has been set for 9am on Tuesday. But Steve Romines said: "We are going to plead not guilty and get the next court date. Could the charges be dropped? Anything is possible.""They will either be dropped or we will go to trial because he didn’t do anything wrong. We’re not interested in any settlement negotiations or anything like that. He didn’t do anything wrong. It was just a big miscommunication. It was a kind of perfect storm of circumstances.
Romines added: "Scottie was advised to go around and turn left into the facility. The officer who charged him obviously didn’t know that. He did what he was instructed to do and the officer who arrested him didn’t think he should be doing that. That is where the miscommunication occurred." The American has issued a statement on his arrest as he gave his account of being detained. He said: "This morning, I was proceeding as directed by police officers. It was a very chaotic situation, understandably so considering the tragic accident that had occurred earlier, and there was a big misunderstanding of what I thought I was being asked to do. I never intended to disregard any of the instructions.
