Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe is the only Europe-based player among top 10 as Saudi Pro League's arrival on big stage has changed the market beyond recognition

It has been a summer shaped by the Saudi Pro League’s distortion of the transfer market and the most notable change has come in the form of heavily inflated salaries for star players.

While the Premier League continues to charge ahead when it comes to the total fees paid, not one player based in England is among the top 10 best paid. Instead eight are star names who have made the switch to Saudi this year with Inter Miami’s Lionel Messi and Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappe the outliers, according to French newspaper Le Parisien.

Premier League clubs have been involved in 14 of the 20 most expensive transfers to date this summer - but for players who prioritise a mega pay day over anything else the primary destination has become obvious. The figures below are also pre-tax, meaning that both Mbappe and Messi are taking home significantly less than the rest.Chelsea were more than happy to say goodbye to the Senegal centre-back following a shocking season following a highly-anticipated arrival from Napoli.
