I recently reviewed the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra and hailed it as the best smartphone you can currently buy.
The handset looks quite similar to iPhone 15 Pro: it’s quite a boxy looking slab with rounded corners, flat display, metal side frame and minimalist looking rear with three circular cameras and a flash. However, I must concede that in everyday use the Exynos 2400 felt zippy and smooth – even though some benchmark tests I ran produced inferior scores when compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip in the S24 Ultra.
Other useful One UI features worth a mention are the Edge panels and multitasking tricks such as opening apps in floating windows which now let you swipe down on notification previews and open a windowed view of whichever app to, for example, send a quick text reply.S24+ cameras S24+ utilises the same camera hardware as the S23+, but there are huge improvements to the software and post-processing.
Video can be captured at 4K and 8K resolution – the former at up to 60 frames per second and the latter at 30fps. There is 120fps slo-mo video in 4K too, or 240fps in full-HD resolution. You need to enable this extra brightness in Settings, incidentally. And it doesn’t quite scale the heights of the 4,500 nits on the OnePlus 12 or the 5,000 nits of the Honor Magic 6 Pro - technically, the brightest smartphone ever. But it’s worth mentioning all these peak brightness figures relate only to HDR content viewed in extra bright conditions.
You can recharge in about 80 minutes. Wired charging is capped at 45W. You can also charge wirelessly at up to 15W.
