Limerick woman Ruth Morrissey, who is suing the Health Service Executive and two laboratories over the alleged misreading of cervical smears and the failure to tell her about it, has told the High Court she asked three times for scans to be carried out in the years before she was diagnosed with a recurrence of her cancer.
Part of her case is that if she had known earlier about the review, she would have asked for more scans and better surveillance of her condition after undergoing a procedure to deal with her initial diagnosis. Becoming emotional, Ms Morrissey said she had put her trust in Dr Hewitt to monitor her and he should have spotted the recurrence.
