Sam joins the cast of the second season of The Dry, which airs Wednesday night on RTE One.

Actor Sam Keeley has revealed he was given a training course on how to make decent coffee before he started filming on The Dry.Sam has joined the cast as Shiv’s, played by Roisin Gallagher, new “charming barista” Alex, a possible love interest for the recovering alcoholic.

He said his new skills came in handy, as he spent his time in between takes making coffee for most of the cast and crew on the show. “It's like anything if you're going to approach something you should do it with, with everything that you have and I mean try and be as authentic as possible and like, there was no way I was going to rock up and then you know, pretend to be a barista and just wing it. I have too much respect for that craft and respect for the industry.

He said: “It’s tricky, you know what I mean? I think like, what makes the show amazing is a combination of the writing and the cast and the production value. And there's a lot of things that go into that show to make it the special show that it is, you know, and a huge part of that and integral part of that is the cast.
