The Irish are renowned for a sense of community and compassion and each story sent to us over the last couple of weeks was special and we saw the best of the human spirit emerge both in the people being nominated and in the individuals who recognised their efforts.

And the nominees are... Geraldine Mullen In the face of adversity some people can become a true inspiration to others! Our unsung hero Geraldine is an epitome of love, kindness, compassion but most of all her innate beautiful character of heartfelt openness and strength has been truly inspiring to people of her community and further afield.

Geraldine’s local community of Moville, Co. Donegal and countrywide have shown their unwavering love and support for her by participating in the Mullan Sunflower Festival. She says “my John always said plant a seed and watch it grow”. Many people believe sunflowers signify strength, love, positivity, connection, loyalty, peace and beauty – all words that aptly describe our unsung hero!

I became part of the admin team in the early stages. Laura has been my absolute rock since my hubby Trev was referred to the palliative team and for the past two years even setting up a GoFundMe for our family so we wouldn't have to worry about bills as we used the time to create precious memories. She is the driving force behind the Ringstreet YCC Club, a club for all ages from youth club nights for the kiddies, café evenings for the teens, bingo nights for the elderly and craft mornings for people who want to learn a new skill or brush up an old one, there really is something for everyone . Despite anything personal Suzanne might have going on in her own life she truly is there for everyone young & old and always does it with a smile on her face .

She left my violent alcoholic father, raising us by herself not an easy thing to do in 80/90s Ireland. We never wanted for anything as she would go without herself .Kind, selfless and wonderful if I turn out half as good as her I will be delighted.
