For every 100 homes that were available to rent in 2009, there are just three today.

Image: Shutterstock/Hunter Bliss Images Image: Shutterstock/Hunter Bliss Images IRELAND’S RENTAL MARKET has plumbed new depths as the number of homes available has dropped to an all-time low while the rate of inflation in prices climbed to its highest level in at least 15 years, according to Daft.ie.

In Dublin rental prices jumped 12.7%, marking the first time the rate of inflation in the capital was above the national average since 2018. The report includes an analysis of figures provided by Cortland Consult on the pipeline of new rental homes. “While there are almost 115,000 proposed rental homes in the pipeline, these are concentrated in the Dublin area. Further, while nearly 23,000 are under construction, the remainder are earlier in the process and the growth of legal challenges to new developments presents a threat to addressing the rental scarcity,” Lyons concluded.

“Those renting a single room will pay approximately an extra €100 month compared to last year, at a time when inflation is almost 10%,” he said. He said that Budget 2023 is the Housing Minister’s “last chance to make the level of change required to fix our deepening housing crisis”.

Thanks to Sinn Fèin and other lefties constantly harping on about landlords the chicken have finally come home to roost. Who would want to be a small landlord?

Rent controls have absolutely fcuked the market! That and endless “refugees” and Ukrainians! These clowns in FFG greens have destroyed the country

In Ireland this is Geopolitical racism. Home's for local people only, rest Go home.

Extremely fast growing population

Sinn Fein government coming. Everyone selling up before the State steals their property.

Are we still not allowed to talk about mass immigrations effect on the housing crisis? IrelandisFull

Wait until the colleges reopen and students can't find accommodation, this will effect families in every constituency in the country. It's a ticking political timebomb.

Meanwhile...

No shit sherlock.

In 2009 the economy was tanking, we had ghost estates ( remember them ). Construction activity collapsed & only started to recover 2016-17.

the 3 pc are probably owned by fffgg

Tell me again what parties have been in Govt during this time , certainly not sinnfeinireland .

Pity there isn't some sort of governing body thst could make some sort of policies or laws to help alleviate the crisis.. weird right

keep bringing in masses of migrants, that'll fix it

I wonder now that they have destroyed the rental market, health, housing market, what else can they destroy, peoples will to live maybe?

Something radically wrong with govt policy in that rents overall are v high yet the private landlord cannot get out of it fast enough which is causing a huge problem. Someone in power needs to join the dots fairly quickly before it's a total disaster.

… remember this guy ? MurphyEoghan currently in makey-uppey job in Armenia or somewhere. Fuk FFG LeoVaradkar DarraghOBrienTD we need a protest demanding resignations of these 🤡🤡🤡

Waiting to read replies to this article saying it is somehow because of greedy landlords so
