Visitor numbers soared by more than 30% during 2022 with gate receipts exceeding €16.7 million

Nearly 1.3 million people visited Dublin Zoo last year – the highest annual total since the popular attraction first opened its gates to the public in 1831.

A total of 415,200 people visited the wildlife park in Cork in 2022 – nearly 60,000 fewer than during the previous year. The drop was attributed to a “change in accommodation choices for potential visitors”, with the annual report noting that hotel stays were down 21% during the period. In 2021, it received just over €2.1 million in Covid-related income supports, and Dublin Zoo fundraised €355,000 from the public “to meet the costs of animal care and welfare”.
