A temporary speed limit of 30 kilometres per hour is being proposed across Dublin city in response to the Covid-19 crisis

The lower speed which had been introduced for all residential streets will now also be imposed on many of the main arterial routes into the city centre for the first time.

"The measures developed in response to a new and unprecedented emergency caused by the COVID19 pandemic are being implemented on a temporary/emergency basis to respond to the urgent and immediate needs of the city," stated senior executive engineer Helen Smirnova. Now the plan is to make 30km/h the default limit covering most roads however higher limits would remain on some routes.

Sections of road currently 60km/h such as Kylemore Road and Stillorgan Road will be reduced from 60km/h to 50km/h.

This is not in response to anything about covid 19. Its the Green Party and Keegan trying to push their anti car agenda under the guise of covid 19. Do some proper journalism.

Carownervirus

Headline misrepresents what’s proposed completely. It is not a blanket imposition of 30kph across the city but a change to the default limit. Most main roads will see little or no change. But there will be some change in places where exceeding that speed is already dangerous.

Dublin gets all the best stuff, make it a national thing, Ill sleep in my car after work save 3 hours it would take me getting between A and B. Bit ridiculous would be quicker to walk then use Dublin bus plenty of dangerous driving by cyclists to should have plates to be reported

Is it April 1?

Wtf is this scutter and nonsense

this will achieve nothing except for more revenue through fines...

Is that to SLOW the virus?

This stinks of an attempt to cause mass public disobedience

And we all know drivers are so good at sticking to speed limits...🙄

Why will the virus travel slower then?

Yeh good way to slow it down. Maybe if we up it to 120. It would get the fuck out of here quicker.

Excuse me?!

It’s all for more money on speeding fines.

A good proposal

Why

I am a big cyclist and public transport user but slowing down the speed at which vehicles pass from A to B will add to congestion. 30 km/h = 19 mph and that is very slow.

Temporary. Yeah right.

Didn't know the virus spread at over 30km/hr. Scary.

Leave the motorist alone😡

Would love if this applied to cyclists too. Wojld love to get them off the road once and for all.

What the fuck? 30kmh. Ridiculous

Maybe stop massive marches of 5000 people

This is great.

Ah yes. That'll help with the spread of COVID19
