The first part of Harry & Meghan aired today and it aims to show"the other side" of the challenges the Sussexes have faced since their relationship began.Speaking in the first episode of the series, Harry took a swipe at some members of the Royal Family, claiming they married someone"who fit the mould” rather than marrying someone they were"destined to be with”.
He said: “I think for so many people in the family, especially the men, there could be a temptation or an urge to marry someone who would fit the mould as opposed to someone you are destined to be with.“And my mum [Princess Diana] certainly made most of her decisions, if not all of them, from her heart. And I am my mother’s son.”
Harry's parents Princess Diana and King Charles married in 1981 but it was only a few years later that reports began circulating of an affair Charles was having with Camilla Parker Bowles. A transcript from a 1989 phone call between Charles and Camilla was released to the public in 1992 and shortly after Prime Minister John Major confirmed that Charles and Diana had formally separated.Despite not naming Camilla as the"other woman" in a 1993 interview and only referring to her as a"good friend," Charles went on to marry Camilla in 2005 following Diana's tragic death in Paris in 1997.
Harry also speaks about his mum in the new Netflix series, opening up about how he could see a"media frenzy" happening with his and Meghan's relationship that reminded him of how Diana was treated by the media.
