This was the fifth time asylum seekers have been moved from tent “encampments” around Dublin City in recent weeks as the State struggles to provide all asylum seekers arriving in Ireland with accommodation

Nearly 100 asylum seekers were moved from tents on the Grand Canal yesterday during the latest “multi-agency” Government operation.

The Government Press Office confirmed that the “International Protection Accommodation Services continue to work towards ensuring that the limited available bed space for International Protection applicants is prioritised for those most in need”.“A number of beds became available in recent days,” it said.

The operation to dismantle the tents pitched in a cramped space along the Grand Canal began shortly after 7am on Thursday.Contractors began erecting additional barriers around the site from 5am on Thursday. He also said he believes the move to State-provided shelter is good as there is no access to facilities at the makeshift camp.
