The Commission for Regulation of Utilities has ordered electricity suppliers to find ways to curb the surge in demand for power that occurs between 5pm and 7pm daily.Newstalk Breakfast"The CRU is proposing some changes for changes to those tariffs and only one of those tariffs is actually going to impact on domestic suppliers or or companies that supply domestic suppliers", she explained.
"Do they just load an extra €26 on everybody's bill or hike up their tax? Do they add it on to the cost in a fixed portion of people's bill?" "So this is a tariff that charges you more between five and seven o'clock and then charges you very little between maybe 11 o'clock at night and 8am in the morning.""Certainly the probability of having power shortages is the highest it's been for a long time.

Is this the same guy who wanted to close one of the newest and most efficient power stations saying it wasn't required ?
Does that include data centres?
I wonder whose homes this will hit hardest
You can see already that this will be peddled as having nothing to do with our gov. They're distancing themselves from it.
Great for us who have homes heated by electrically…..
Surely if we're going to have power shortages which I doubt, what does it matter what time we use it. I'd imagine it will only cause more surges during other times. More price gouging that's all it is
If anyone has been in Dublin late at night you will have seen how many businesses leave the lighting on all night and that includes government buildings, maybe consider charging them first if they won’t turn the lights off and leave the rest of us alone please,
So the hard pressed Irish public will have to carry the can for the inept government, and the mismanagement of our electricity grid. These clowns were warned a long time ago about the data centres and the closing of our generation stations. They were also warned about student acc
Really...... And how much are they proposing to charge the data centres, or massive warehouses like amazon at peak times... Not one penny I'd bet...
Climate cultists will be loving this nonsense. Cue, rationing and higher tariffs. But its for you're own good.
Will they cut the power in data centers to?
Anything to keep Data centers Running Tax free
I can see OAP’s taking up every seat available on public transport!
Secondary attending teenagers especially ( eat you out of house and home ) teenagers, now have to face this winter to come home to house with no heat or hot dinner’s until 8.00pm. While those working in data Centre’s can avail of hot meals and the luxury of heating! 😩
So how do we light our homes, cook dinners and heat homes without electricity in the winter.
Picket power stations and Headquarters of energy suppliers
Fear mongering agenda continues
Will this be the hill that FFFG dies on? A people pushed too far has to break and retaliate.
The government and the ESB won't will this battle. As soon as there's a black out, watch the protests. People will demand the closure of data centers
Here's an idea.... Close some data centres and cut back their usage at peak times...
Explain, how does billing me more reduce usage, probably the way to get back the 130 million that E Ryan wasted on generators that haven’t turned up, between regulator and the comps increasing charges Gov take in more tax and losers are the public, disgraceful way to deal with it
And to think young people are emigrating
Putin must be really worried now. 🤔 EU sanctions starting to bite... . (us).
I agree. Stop providing electricity to data centres in peak time. Problem solved
Who's fault is it that there's possible power outages as we can't produce enough electricity? It's definitely not the customers of these companies! And since when does a company get to charge you more for not providing you with the service you are paying for!? Disgusting!
Any time a house is at risk of having no power supply we should SWITCH OFF a datacentre to ensure the people of Ireland have sufficient supply.
