Data centres are responsible for 14% of all electricity usage in Ireland as of 2021. This is a 32% increase compared to 2020 and a 265% increase compared to 2015. A mix of advertising and supporting contributions helps keep paywalls away from valuable information like this article.

Yes
Yes
No. I'd be in favour of a deep underground nuclear power station.
No, although they should be self sufficient and receive planning permission on those terms.
No need to ban them, just reopen the power plants that were closed. When we have a replacement power supply up and running we can close them for good. Typical green party decision. Putting the cart before the horse.
It's not fucking rocket science lads tbf.
I would support proper planning in their construction taking into account energy requirements.
Definitely, the public will suffer. They are now more valuable than the public
Wrong question. Would you support a ban/reduction on what is stored in data centres: porn, photos, Twitter, WhatsApp, Facebook, XRays, Netflix, bank accounts etc etc.
Not until every parish has its own data centre
Yes. Ban them all. We dont need to store every bit of data. They are completely unethical.
For the numpties voting no,the land these data centres will be occupying are currently used to produce food so you go hungry so they can harvest your data!
The age old Irish solution. We want data processing but we dont want data centres, so we'll use another country's. We dont want waste disposal so we'll use another country's. We dont nuclear power so we'll use another country's. Exporting a problem doesnt solve the problem.
Are they good/bad for economy?
What revenue is made from having them here?
Two people here know what a data centre does. The other one wants them banned…
Not if they committed to teaming with ESB to increase our ability to generate electricity. Funding on/off shore wind farms, solar facilities on all of their facilities etc
Should be power stations that the greenparty_ie closed be reopened.
Should be building as many as we can.
Why ban them? We should just insure that their construction and locations are thought out and planned correctly. They could potentially be used to heat and provide hot water to homes and businesses near them.
Yes, absolutely. We're already doing more than our share for the Internet while other countries crow about their smaller carbon footprint
100%. We cannot afford them and they should never take priority over the energy needs of people in this country!
